#Fediverse: Infra-verse -->
"Yeah, it is much better than #Facebook. Instances .. yada yada .. decentralized .. yada yada .. self-host .. yada .. so when can I toot you?"
Fediverse: #Peopleverse -->
“Yes, the Fediverse is an online world-wide social space where there are numerous communities where you can meet people. They all have different themes and activities and you just join where lies your interest. Or create your own community for your friends and family on whatever has your passion.”
@liwott currently we think of instances (servers) as communities, and your following/followers are an implicit community. But all in a context of microblogging. The potential of the #Fediverse is much larger than that, where all kinds of social activity can come together, with many different app-types integrating.
IRL we have intricate web of communities consisting of people, groups and all different kinds of relationships between them. On fedi we just have Groups that you can be member_of.

Yes, and that is exactly what I think should be the main point when pitching the fediverse. If discribing my #Friendica experience, I'd sayit's like when using #Facebook, but federation means what everyone sees and does is not controlled by a single company in order to maximize its profit
Sounds a bit like the infraverse speech that you were categorizing as bad. Maybe except for the whole selfhost bit that is definitely not what one will first look into, but that is probably the only acceptable answer to the common "you have to trust someone anyway"but in this Facebook-like feed I can have updates from #Peertube channels, from #Lemmy communities, and more. Most importantly, I can interact with those contents directly from here.
Tbh, this is what got me hooked on the fediverse. As a someone who does not use Twitter, my first #Mastodon experience was very brief (even though it was on the very nice #Framapiaf instance), but I started using it more when I got interested in Peertube interaction.Back to my original point
@liwott there are no good and bad ways to advocate for the #Fediverse, of course. It all depends on the audience you are addressing.
E.g. my little niece doesn't care about self-hosting, control or even privacy (unfortunately).
Re:Lemmy. That's just a social media link-sharing app.
#Peopleverse refers to a broad vision: The entire online space that extends and supports real-life human activity and social experiences. A social fabric we weave together.
It doesn't exist yet. We have some apps.

Re: good and bad ways.
There is one aspect of fediverse vision, thinking and promotion, and I'm not going to call it "bad", but maybe detrimental and best avoided.
It is when the fediverse is placed in the frame of response, alternative-to, replicating-but-fedi... same same but different, - of existing mega platforms.
Don't do that. Don't follow the lead of the corporate internet. Think first what you really want and implement that.
