Fantastic post by @mre and I agree with every point. Boggles my mind how much people willingly hand over to Google through Chrome when there’s a better option: Firefox.
(No need to tell me about the minor things Mozilla had done compared to Google or that your particular bank doesn’t work in Firefox—it’s possible to use more than one browser)

Nice to see somebody (still) writing about this issue, and it gets worse than browser wars, did you know there is a 3rd party "security" product used on at least one prominent Mexican website that will deny access based on the string "linux" being present in the User-Agent? - can be demonstrated by simple modification to that header, but unsuspecting linux users are sent into an endless captcha loop.
