I finally got my hands on a #Pixel phone, and before installing #GrapheneOS, I took a very quick look at the software that ships with the device.

The situation is worse than I thought. It is no wonder some people are seemingly inclined to believe that life without #bigtech may not be possible.

NEVER, EVER give a young person a #Google phone* This should be nobody's first experience.

* unless of course, you already installed some other OS.

My only issue:

I don't see how this really matters with our current hyper-centralised #Internet where most people will want to connect to data farms located close to the ground station anyway.

I've often not seen eye to eye with Steve Song, but Steve may well be on the money here:

Direct to Consumer LEO like #Starlink may hurt rollout of terrestrial connectivity and worsen inequality of access in rural communities.

Estoy pensando en una onda que tuvo su momento de moda en los tiempos de los #webceleb. En inglés se conocía como #AMA (por ask me anything). Para no arriesgar aparecer tan prepotentes, serían sesiones de #PreguntaLoQueQuieres o #PreguntaLoQueSea con personas que hemos trabajado cerca de redes comunitarias, con #2G con #LTE y con la parte social/politica del trabajo.

I share your concerns, (for all the reasons!), although professionally, the main concern is service availability in the future.

I see #piped is pretty much blocked out right now. At least every instance i tried just now is not working. I link to the related issue, which is suggesting to continue to play cat and mouse with IP addresses and api credentials.
However maybe the solution is other; stop uploading content to #youtube! Use other services, distribute. #peertube

Nice to see somebody (still) writing about this issue, and it gets worse than browser wars, did you know there is a 3rd party "security" product used on at least one prominent Mexican website that will deny access based on the string "linux" being present in the User-Agent? - can be demonstrated by simple modification to that header, but unsuspecting linux users are sent into an endless captcha loop.
