here is a thing I have been working on for many months --->>>>>>

wwwobble.org/

👾👾👾Wobble Web visual && code editor for making small websites👾👾👾

It is still very much in progress, but I would love to hear from you if you try it out or have ideas! I will reply to this thread with more details :)

@jimkreft
You know, for years now, since initial attempts that were often laughable, I've been OK with machine translation, generally finding it to be faithful enough in languages I know and useful when I would otherwise be at a complete loss; your post prompted me to look into vs MT and I see that things are moving in the direction of implementing translation more using LLM tech. I haven't actually done any analysis of LLM translation they way I did before with MT when I came to trust it.

@jimkreft
Indeed, machine translation* might miss some subtleties

However, even as I eschew big tech such as alphabet inc (for everything they've done to the internet), I'd still prefer that somebody with no knowledge at all of the Spanish language would watch the presentation with translated subtitles, than (only) read what is out there in the English language from "journalists" on the subject. Megan Janetsky for example. 😔

Anyway, it seems eng MT subs are disabled on it.

* see next toot.

@jimkreft
If there is, I have not seen it. There's of course the transcript of the presentation on a certain video streaming platform and that thing has a auto translation function. It has been possible in the past to obtain those transcripts as text. 😉

From the presentation of the 1st report of 's six year term headed by Claudia :

"The dark night of , a model that established that the state should not intervene in development nor concern itself with the redistribution of wealth, but simply create a favourable environment for business, is now a thing of the past; the experience of those decades demonstrated that this idea was totally erroneous."

There's a QR code on a poster on the door of . Seems to be advertising a multi-lingual get together; QR code has this url: qr.me-qr.com/gb0ucGae

Now, that seems to be some kind of MITM advertising serving service, (successfully blocked by browser), but I can click a "Skip ad" button and get redirected to this URL: instagram.com/luditalk/ in which there is a thumbnail that appears to mention a language exchange event in . Clicking that leads me to this screenshot. 😕

Hi journalists! Before I start targeted emails to journalists I've talked to before, I'm just going to put this out here and see if it works:

Now that Reflect Orbital reflectorbital.com/ has officially filed to launch their first satellite, does anyone want to write an article about what a stupid, useless, potentially destructive and harmful idea this is? I would be happy to be interviewed about all the ways this is a very very bad idea and why I'm absolutely livid that they're launching.

Google's impact on our climate is so bad they can't even hide from their own numbers:

"Google’s own data makes it clear: the corporation is contributing to the acceleration of climate catastrophe, and the metrics that matter – how many emissions they emit, how much water they use, and how fast these trends are accelerating – are headed in the wrong direction for us and the planet,”
- Nicole Sugerman, Campaign Manager at Kairos Fellowship.

If you're on here and hearing your friends say they're going to #BlueSky 'cause they're “getting better reach” — remind them what always happens next.

They lure people in with engagement, then shadowban, censor, and sanitize once the politics get too real — especially when it comes to #Palestine.

Investing time and energy into these corporate-lite platforms is a trap. We’ve seen it over and over: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok — now BlueSky. It’s the same playbook with new branding.

Mastodon isn’t perfect, but at least it's not selling you out the second you speak truth.

Tell your people: don’t chase numbers. Chase liberation.
#FreePalestine. Always. 🖤❤️💚✊🏽

@categulario

@jamiem
With one's own solution, one is not limited to just forwarding to another phone number, although for sure this may be "easiest".

For example, Android (AOSP) actually had native SIP support integrated in stock dialer before android 12 although some manufacturers hid it, and yes there may be battery drain issues and other issue for reliability. But it was there, and worked!

Core support is still there of course, VoLTE and WoWifi is just glorified SIP.

@jamiem
didww.com have been good to us, and even though I have not used it (no need), I understand they also have a fairly powerful web based switch control panel.
They only thing I have an issue with is Caller ID forwarding, this is because regulation and the industry has severely tightened restrictions on this in recent years. One used to be able to originate calls with any CID one cared to put in the headers.

@jamiem
I do this with a DID provider, a VOIP call termination provider and my own kamailio server. This is probably not 'minimal', but then we have to define minimal. Kamailio for such a service runs without much computing resources and there is no need to pass any media so the bandwidth use for SIP is tiny.
There does seem to be an idea that one needs "wizard foo" to hack on such things, (SIP, et al.) but it is really not much more complex than a simple web server.

When we do it: ‘shaping the narrative.’ When they do it: ‘disinformation.’

I woke up at 1am and the auroras were amaaaazing!! It was a bit smoky, but the auroras were so bright it didn't matter. I just stood there, soaking it up, while a barn cat purred and rubbed on my legs, and Starlink satellites drifted through the storm. Eat protons, Musk!

I also recently got a used old phone that can actually take decent night photos (unlike my phone, and yeah, I should get a real camera, I know).

So! Enjoy my totally unprofessional aurora photos!
