Reminder of how much we like to criminalize being poor.
Skipping a $3.50 transit fare results in a $425 fine while skipping a $20 parking pass lands you a $70 fine that rich people complained to high heaven about. What justification, other than hating poor people, is there for this not scaling?
Make parking fines $2000 and then let's talk about the fictional "war on cars"

Si vienes de Twitter, es comprensible que sientas que aquí hay mucho más silencio. @Mastodon no está "muerto", pero no hay un #algoritmo que te bombardee con cosas. Aquí desarrollas tu propia experiencia de usuario buscando y siguiendo a gente y cosas que te interesan. Puedes construir rápidamente una experiencia mucho más satisfactoria, pero requiere un poco de esfuerzo. Seguir #hashtags es una buena manera de empezar. Ten paciencia y participa en las conversaciones.

Son buenos los videos, hablan por ejemplo de como no vemos gente morena o indígena en resultados de búsquedas en los principales motores. (porque ey! ¿que crees? hay una agenda!)
Pero promuevan la idea que uno puede controlar el "algoritmo" de las empresas o entrenarlo en su beneficio. Idea peligrosa.

¿Podríamos quizás hablar de las #RRSS corporativas y capitalistas como una red de transporte público que no es subvencionada con fondos públicos y donde tu ni pagas pasaje?
Puedes subir el camión pero no controlar el destino; te lleva a donde más le conviene al "algoritmo" programado por las empresas transportistas o las que mas pagan.
Igual te lleva al "Mall" en vez de a tu casa, o al super en vez del mercado local. Pues adueñarte de tu algoritmo, pero sigues estando en el mall, no en tu casa.

I've been running mail servers and writing email software since the dialup days of 1995. I guess by today's trends, that could brand me a holdout.
But we're still hosting mail for hundreds of company domains across dozens of mail servers, all in a nicely packaged system that's always just an "apt install" away.
The landscape has changed over time, and, yes, it is annoying dealing with the imbalance that the behemoth mail providers represent these days.
But there's a lot to be said for not bargaining away your digital autonomy.
I saw @mwl selling his "Run Your Own Mail Server" book and jumped to pick up a copy. Not so much because I had a need for it (though it'll be interesting to compare notes!), but because I strongly support the idea that email is still a shared ecosystem and love that Michael is sharing the knowledge to encourage folks to continue to participate.
Long live the open Internet.

escuchen directamente lo que decimos a través del micrófono del ordenador. Al menos no existen evidencias de ello. Lo que sí se ha demostrado es que, por ejemplo, ALGUNOS TELEVISORES inteligentes captan palabras para hacernos sugerencias.
Tienen muchísimo poder. Estamos lidiando con gigantes. Muchas de las sanciones propuestas contra grandes tecnológicas como Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft o Twitter se encontraban bloqueadas por la inacción de #Irlanda, donde la mayoría tienen su sede.

I finally got my hands on a #Pixel phone, and before installing #GrapheneOS, I took a very quick look at the software that ships with the device.
The situation is worse than I thought. It is no wonder some people are seemingly inclined to believe that life without #bigtech may not be possible.
NEVER, EVER give a young person a #Google phone* This should be nobody's first experience.
* unless of course, you already installed some other OS.
My only issue:

I don't see how this really matters with our current hyper-centralised #Internet where most people will want to connect to data farms located close to the ground station anyway.
I've often not seen eye to eye with Steve Song, but Steve may well be on the money here:
Direct to Consumer LEO like #Starlink may hurt rollout of terrestrial connectivity and worsen inequality of access in rural communities.
