Bonne nouvelle (enfin !).

Le Parlement européen a voté pour des #batteries réparables et remplaçables dans tous les appareils électroniques grand public.

@bhaugen
A SIP phone would be via some existing internet connection, yes. $15 is ok. I saw higher prices on their website.

Wow. Republic Wireless seems quite pricey, by my standards anyway.

I imagine it works well, but if you hardly ever use the cell towers, that's a lot to pay for a SIP phone!

Good luck! I have an Asus ZenFone that I've replaced the screen on twice, recently the touch panel died and then the power button disintegrated. The battery is, at this stage, also next to useless. I'm still considering reviving it as it's a good board. I'm just a bit torn having already having junked two screens.

Actually, if the back is coming unstuck, then that's good news for replacing the battery!

Voice-over-WiFi or "wifi calling" is basically and hyped-up term for (which is also the basis of VoLTE)
VoWiFi and VoLTE both use slightly "enhanced" versions of VoIP protocols to communicate with the core network. It's just that with VoLTE, the traffic is via the IP connection on the mobile Radio Access Network (cell tower) (with some QoS assurances) where as with VoWiFI it is using your internet to reach the core network.

Ugh, Phones with design like the Moto X are a curse. There is a lot of adhesive to warm and small parts to fiddle with. That said, while you might not feel up to taking it on yourself, there are probably people who have the tools and practice to do it without too much effort. It may be an option if the device otherwise works for you? This way you only junk the old battery, not the entire device, and you avoid creating the junk that your new phone will eventually become

@bhaugen @zabbeer @bob @humanetech@mastodon.social @Fairphone
When you say wifi calls, do you mean your (phone number) provider's native service (VoWi-Fi) or some other VoIP usage?

@bhaugen @bob @humanetech@mastodon.social

A phone that makes phone calls? hmmm.

But seriously, Whenever I think, or read "I need a new phone" I want to ask why, and you mention calls, albeit specifically wifi calls. What else?

What device do you generally use (most often) to access Fedi?

I use a laptop. :-)

Hi. Sorry for not getting back to you on this. I don't like to leave questions without a response, but I'm a bit lost about which argument this is.

Free as in not having to run servers?

"connected" is also a concept I have trouble with - knowing what is meant when it is used is difficult.

If there existed some "centre for abuse of adjectives", I'd have to file a report. 😃

Proof is in the pudding.

Not to worry though, GitHub's days as a forge are almost over. Soon it will be relegated to little more than a directory (search engine) for projects, once
#Gitea completes their ForgeFed / ForgeFlux #ActivityPub #Federation integration (Now in limited release) which will obsolete the #monolithic_silo, leaving GitHub little more than a place-holder with README.mg files to locate FOSS repos elsewhere on Federated forge servers that are horizontally scaled in the #Fediverse.
